Bit perhaps the worst mistake was doing a dry fit of the magnets, pressing them right up in the holes, so there was a 1-2mm space between the top of each magnet and the top of the wood surface the magnet was sitting in. Closed the lid, and one of the press fitted magnets came loose and shot up onto the other magnet. When meant the lid could not be opened. Ended up drilling down through the lid and pushing both magnets down to a position where the lid could be slid open, and subsequently discarded.

But you were still smiling when I dropped that timber off yesterday. One of those character building projects. It looks good mate.

Talk to PowderPost about lining the shed with insulation. Its made a huge difference to Jim's wood turning shed.

I can assure you that you're not the first to make the polarity mistake with the magnets. I did it with my graduation piece at Sturt. Fortunately, I was able to drill through from the back of the cabinet frame where it wouldn't be seen, to push the magnet out.

Hi all, here are the final pics of the picture card display box, after the glass viewing window was fitted and the black bean box and ebony base have had three coats of Kunos #244 Clear oil.
The piece of huon pine is a backing piece for the cards. The box ID is 71mm deep, and the stack of cards on edge is 51mm deep, so the 18mm thick packing piece sits behind the cards to make up the gap and keep the front card pressed against the glass.

Photographs in bright sunlight certainly show up imperfections

Not too many imperfections from this angle, it has come up really nice.

Well, the box was picked up from Ipswich Post Office this morning, and one daughter is completely over the moon, totally exceeded her expectations. All the cards and the huon pine packing piece fitted perfectly. A happy ending

She did tell me that the cards have varying widths of white borders that you will usually see

My daughter reckons the box gives a 3D effect to some of her cards, as shown here. Probably the bevelled edge of the frame holding the glass
