Diy cnc
Thinking about building a CNC. Would prefer to make it all/mostly out of aluminum extrusion. Are there any guides out there?
Or is there a kit like this in Australia? PRO4896 4' x 8' CNC Router Kit | Avid CNC | CNC Router Parts

Being that big, if it were me i'd most likely buy it from them. But building it yourself is doable. I did one out of extrusion but it's approx 1.2 x 1 m.

Setting it up is the easy part, basically bolting it all together, it's the actual drawing and settings of the drivers that are the tricky bits, well for me anyway.
For that money, I'd find out for sure whether it includes the steppers etc. as it sounds as though they could be extras. To grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Quality extrusions are expensive over here. If you have access to a milling machine to make the other bit's then maybe. Else you might find it will cost you more to build than to import the machine kit. They not hard to put together, they have videos showing you exactly what to do. The electronics/control is not too hard to build, or you can buy a complete controller from me

It would depend on your choice of parts. But i will be quite a bit less than what cncrouterparts are charging for their's. If you pm me i will give you an idea. If you plan to build your own box...my website will be up next year where all the parts will be available individually...

I see.
So at a minimum I will need:
PRO4896 4' x 8' CNC Router Kit | Avid CNC | CNC Router Parts
Spindle + mount
Control unit
Legs (which I can build out of timber or get from Leg Kit (PRO CNC) - CRP813-00 | Avid CNC | CNC Router Parts)
Anything else?
Will I need:
Auto Z and Corner Finding Touch Plate | Avid CNC | CNC Router Parts
and
Pepperl + Fuchs Proximity Sensor Kit | Avid CNC | CNC Router Parts

If you have the budget then i suggest you buy everything from them. Reason being that if you buy their proxies etc then you will have less hassles when it comes to connecting everything up. They pre size all the cables etc...with your limited knowledge as you suggested it might be your best option.

I would like to go as cheap as possible and willing/would like to know how to build one. Its just that I cant find any guides online so I dont even know what parts are required and dont even know what is necessary and what is 'nice to have'. Is that kit I listed essentially the minimum that is necessary to get something going?
What would I need to do to save some $? I understand building something out of plywood etc might be cheaper but I'm open to suggestions and I'll figure out if its worth the time for me personally or if I should just spend the money. Im in no real rush

The first thing you need to decide is what you want the machine for. Looks like you want to do timber milling?
Do you have to do that size machine?

Another option may be :
CNC Routers - 3DTEK | AU Shop
I haven't dealt with them, but I think there are a couple of owners of these kits here on these forums.
