Well this has taken a lot longer to get back to than I hoped, work was busy over Christmas and didn’t stop. Then my 14 year old son decided he wanted to come and live with us in January. As things have settled down I have been able to get back to it.
The third and final bench top has been finished and fitted into place on the new (sink and bin) and old (draw)carcasses and everything plumbed in without leaks!
I also removed the old plaster and tiles and replaced with the new ones, in amongst adding some floating shelves just to increase the difficulty level a bit. Nothing better than tiling and cutting out holes for power points and the like.

Kitchen renovation started
Thanks Bob, nice to know your thinking of me too! I hope you are well!
The whole thing has turned into a bit of a saga, due to the time span. I just want to get it finished now.
A bit more work today, started hanging the doors prior to painting. I didn’t want to drill the hinge holes after painting as I am worried that I will damage the doors. 6 down, countless more to go!

Hey guys Steve here from Suspended ceilings QLD in Brisbane Australia. Just noticed this thread and noticed something i may be able to help with. I can't get a good look in the photo but it looks like just topcoat behind the tiles. Just remember to either prime it or even better leave the raw basecoat on the part that's getting tiled. The majority of the best tilers i've worked with all claim its a better, more long lasting tile job. Just a little tip that might help a few people. I have plently of ceiling tips on my site Front Page - Suspended Ceilings Qld hopefully it helps some people out. Take care guys im back off to build a timber star wars imperial walker with my son. Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for your input. I had to remove existing tiles and with it the plaster. The small section has top coat right to the edge of the tiles but in all cases the tiles are on raw plaster. I was aware of your tip, but thanks for pointing it out to anyone watching. Cheers Cal

Well here we are with 4 days off and a kitchen to finish! Doors and other panels are all painted, door handles turned up Thursday just in time for the long weekend.
Here are some more progress pics, I will take some nice ones once it’s all done. I will plaster above the uppers and add a cornice in due course.
There is a shallow shelf unit at the end that I will add some Vic Ash shelves to.

Kitchen renovation started
Well it’s taken longer than I hoped, but aside from a bit of plaster and a fair amount of walls to paint (the whole house) the kitchen is finally finished!
And a before photo

Nice. Can you shed some insight on your carcass build for overhead cabinets with the cabinet that's above the range hood pls, thanks!
I initially showed my wife this site but after seeing this post I know I stuffed up. She's expected me to reno the whole house and has offered to buy me quality tools.

The carcasses are made the same as the floor carcasses. Depth is 430mm, height is 660. The rangehood carcass is 600 wide to suit the rangehood and the height is 485mm to the top of the rangehood, the sides of the carcass are 40mm shorter than those beside it to allow for the slide out hood (sides are 620mm)
I hope that my explanation makes sense?
Let me know if you need more information.
Cheers Cal
