Dewalt DW50 Thickness planer (DW1150)
Hey,
I just picked up this Dewalt DW50 thickness planer off the local classifieds. I want to restore it to original condition, and Im super keen to get stuck into it; However I've run into two problems.
1. Parts
I havent found a parts manual for the DW50 - however I do believe the DW1150 is similar if not same, which is what I've based my part numbers from. The parts Im missing is everything to connect the infeed jointer table to the machine ( see 3rd image)Ive found all the parts I require, but after ordering them, some parts came back as discontinued. What I'm hoping to find is either the parts themselves, or someone who has the same machine and can make some dimensioned drawings for me.
The parts I need are:
123274-01
123275-01
863289-00
2. Paint
The machine is a B&D dewalt, painted in hammertone green. I've tried search for a colour match or AS2700 or RAL colour code to no avail. No local paint supplier/manufacturer is able to get the colour matched in hammertone, and not for the quantity I require (about 1L). (Im in Sydney, Australia.) Does anybody know of the official colour? Or should I just get some Industrial Enamel colour matched (no hammertone).
Thanks!
Jordan

This UK company still has prices against those numbers while some other parts are “discontinued”

Maybe worth an email??

Not sure if this is of assistance, or if you've already been in contact with these folks.
I was looking some time ago for paint to restore a lathe, and was pointed in the direction of a company called Hammerite.
This is probably not the official colour, but might be close? https://www.hammerite.com.au/colorgroup/dark-green/
The company (Hammerite) might be worth phoning and having a chat to them to see if they can help?

I thought id give a quick update a couple of years on.
My DW50 is completely operational now, its just a versatile and accurate tool.
I was able to purchase parts using the DW1150 model from Home page and
I was able to get the green hammertone matched by Omega Industries in a 1L can for about $70. This was enough to paint the whole machine. I could have also gotten it colour matched by Lacnam Paints, although they would only do 4L for about $100. The paint match, I think, it pretty spot on.
I bought a CTS cutterhead for the machine through RDG - woodcraft supplies for $630.
The parts I wasnt able to purchase, I ended up custom making myself. Im fortunate enough to have a Milling Machine and a Welder.
I am currently upgrading the feed rollers from Metal to the updated rubber coated rollers.
@Shippers, Ill have a look at the chain, I remember buying a chain link for it, at it was a common chain size - something that can be bought off the shelf.

Hi jordy, i know the thread is few yearscold but maybe you can assist.
I am thing of getting a spherical cutter for my DW1150. From looking at the machine am I right that you need to remove one side to remove existing cutter? Cant see how you can get cutter out otherwise.

DW50 Run Capacitor
Hello Jordy,
Am in the process of restoring a recently purchased DW50. First issue I have is getting the motor working which is complicated by a failed repair effort from the prev owner. I have the wiring diagram but what I don't have is the original run capacitor to determine what size it needs to be.
Any chance you could take cover off your and advise what the cap specs are?
Regards,
PiP

Bearing replacement of thinknesser axcel
Hi Jordy or some1 else,
Maybe you can help me? I also bought a secondhand DW50 and i have trouble to get the main axcel out. Every part of disassembly so far felt like plug and play, but the main axcel i have no clue to get him out.
The bearings really need a replacement.
in hope of reply and many thanks for your time,
Elbran

Hey,
Removal of the cutterhead is quite time consuming. You need to disassemble most of the machine to get those side cast aluminium plates loose from the cutterhead and bearings. You'll most likely need to re level the thicknesser table after you've reassembled the machine.
