Agreed, but I simplify it for them and only give them a cutting list. Below is an actual cutting list for my kitchen. I just worked from my drawings and transcribed each piece of each cabinet to a spreadsheet:
    • Then sorted by thickness of melamine (Carcase is 18mm, but Blum drawer units are sized for 16mm.)
    • Then sorted by length, then width, of panels (This helps joiner's saws nesting software.)
    • In Edge Banding column "1L,2S" means edge band on one long side and two short sides.
    • The joiner is only interested in the information in the highlighted columns.

The "Area" column is my cross-check of the amount of material, net of all wastage, as a guide in the negotiation process.

I made my robes from melamine. Not a fan of the material, but I was done quickly and did not have to paint. Used pocket screws for that job and of course you can buy sheets that have shelving holes already. Much cheaper than ply, less work involved and of course paint is not that cheap either, not when you do it right so that really is a factor worth considering. Just made a bed for my youngest daughter and that was to be a painted project, paint took longer than the build and added a fair cost. melamine also comes edge banded on three sides, no I only had to edge band a few small sections of the robe myself with the iron on adhesive ones. Looks fine.
