Stage 1 of probably lots of stages, for construction on the Body’s rear tote.

Stay tuned, actually just be as you are, this might take a little while(Not that we have lots of time left.)

    Cheers Matt.

    Matt

A steel handle? Or just a template? Or a laminated timber and steel handle (like a knife handle)?

I like the shape of the extended sole. I had not picked up on that feature before.

    Paul,
Yep like a knife handle, I wanted some steel in the tote too copy the design element of the front knob.

    Cheers Matt .

Rear tote getting there, today was spent fluffing about on it.

Fingers crossed next time I get some time, I can make some serious inroads.
Steel spine is about 4.5 mm thick, the scales, too use a knife making term are about 11 mm thick.

Top steel piece is 5 mm but that will have some serious file work done to it.

    Cheers Matt.

I was wondering how you were going to use burl as a handle; they tend to be on the weak and brittle side so your plan is most sensible. How are you going to attach the handle to the sole? Do I foresee another dovetailing session in the near future?

No more Dovetails on the Body Chief, but I’m formulating a cunning plan on how to attach the tote.
What that means is I’m working on it[emoji6]
There will be some more timber going around the tote either side.
Plus I “may” could insert a rod from underneath!?!

    Cheers Matt.

Very interesting handle design. I like it, eager to see the finished result.

How is the burl timber attached to the spine? Something epoxy related? Apologies if it's already mentioned somewhere deep in the thread I haven't read all of it yet

Love following the WIPs for the plane challenges. Fantastic work

    Delps
At present the burl is just attached with a couple of small drops of Super Glue, but I plan on using an epoxy glue, plus I may also install a couple of rivets.

    Cheers Matt.

    Matt

I like the "scale" concept, which will add ample strength to what is potentially a weak design even with good sound timber. The steel cap is very adventurous. How will you fill the defects in the burl? Clear resin?

And, is that engineer's vice attached to the dining table?

    Paul,
I’m planning on filling the “beauty spots, we don’t call them defects hear” with either black super glue, or just saw dust and super glue.

I think if I even said to Sally, I had vague thoughts about putting any vice on the dining room table I would be looking for my Passport!!

    Cheers Matt.

    Matt

If they are beauty spots, I suggest the remedy should not be called fill, but "make up."

Best to keep your vices in the shed.

    Looking pretty snazzy Matt

I reckon some of those mosaic pins they use on knife handles might look alright, if you go with pins to help hold the scales on

    Brad,
    I could use mosaic pins,
But not sure it would suit, but great idea.

    Cheers Matt.
