Thanks Paul. Yeah, she's got some heft. Best guess is 236kg plus hardware, which would have to be upwards of 25kg, so probably 260kg all up!

Thanks mate. I think the cast also look good, and can suit some timbers / builds better. I totally get you regarding cost. I bought my hardware a few years ago when it was cheaper but it still cost a pretty penny. In total this work bench is far and away my most expensive tool in the shop and certainly the one I now also value most..

Yep, by the time I'm finished with mine it will also be the most expensive piece of kit in my workshop. I'll be pretty chuffed with it as well if I can pull this off without screwing it up. I've told my younger brother he can have it when I croak it. Let's just hope bench envy doesn't get the better of him or he may star in a future episode of Crime Investigation Australia, narrated by Steve Liebmann, "but Richard's brother couldn't wait until he died to get the workbench.....etc."

    Cheers, Richard AKA Biggus.

Someone let me know if this link works, but here's a quick walk around of the bench.

    Hi all,

    Happy lockdown Monday everyone

Here's a photo just because there hasn't really been a full square-on shot.

Pretty bloody flash mate. What to make now? After this almost anything you build will seem trivial surely.

Thanks mate. Your bench is looking great too.

I have a list of not too exciting projects next, but will hopefully get to making a nice tool cabinet at some stage soon - which I expect will be more challenging than the Roubo. I think that other than being large the Roubo is no more complicated than most table/cabinet etc projects. But it is expensive, time consuming, and impressive!

Looks amazing! Great idea to have it surrounded by a timber floor!

Thanks mate. Yeah, it's something I always planned to do and once I'd put the bench down on the stained, cold and hard concrete floor I made it a priority. Now it's much nicer to work at, looks better, and will protect my chisels and planes etc from a completely catastrophic meeting with an unforgiving concrete floor . I only wish I had have had enough left over flooring to do the whole garage!

    Cheers,

    Dom

The link and the bench are perfect.

As usual with your work, the bench is a treat to just look at let alone use. I have just one question, and I am being a little lazy in not going back through the thread, do you have the "loose insert" that fits between the the two bench top sections. It is normally reversible so that it can either fit flush or stand proud to act as a planning stop?

    Paul

I particularly like working on a light coloured work bench surface - sorry Derek, karri is rather dark - and in your case Dom the dark wood in the frme work really gives it a "furniture quality". Nice contrast!

And that "furniture quality" may be a potential problem. Be alert to the conversation that may start:
"That looks really nice, Dominik, and would be a real conservation piece .... in the living room."

    Hi Paul,

Thanks a lot mate. Yeah, I haven't gotten around to making the gap stop just yet but will do at some point soon.

    Cheers, Dom
