Another Jewellery Box
Just finished this box for a lady, who is a stalwart of one of the local charities. New Guinea Rosewood, Jacaranda and River Red Gum. Finished size is approx. 300mm wide, 220mm deep and 150mm high. Finish achieved with two coats of grain filling sanding sealer followed by a coat of Feast Watson Fine Buffing Oil and a final buff with UBeaut EEE Ultra Shine. Quite happy with the result, hope she likes it. This build was subject to the usual errors and recoveries, including at one stage, the loss of some of the smaller components to the dust extractor.

Very nice job with lots of little cubby holes to hold things. Love the figure and finish on that top panel.
Do I take it that they are all handcut dovetails?Dallas

Hi Dallas,
Yes, hand cut dovetails. Don't think I'd have ever achieved any level of skill cutting them without Derek Cohens instructables. Although I love the look that only hand cut dovetails can provide I'm still fairly addicted to jigs. I love the Incra fence system on the router table for the huge variety of sizes, spacings and specialised dovetails that can be achieved. Also recently bought a 24" Leigh off a member on here, just waiting on delivery of some bits that I've ordered for it and it'll be off on another learning curve.
The River Red Gum used in the top panel came from a 100mm x 150mm gate post on a chook pen at a house I was involved in demolishing. It always pays to keep your eyes open.

Aldav,
Very nicely done box, lots of effort in that one, I’m sure the lady will be very happy.
Cheers Matt.

Lovely box, Aldav! Beautiful finish, too
I particularly like the way the two smaller trays sit on the larger one.
Regards,
Brian

Wow. As a newbie that's about all I can say! That's beautiful and something I hope to one day aspire to.
