Another lovely Sunday night chat dominate by the Star sign Leo.
Mostly about marking knives with a few deviations.
With only one Cancer star sign in attendance [emoji45].
Cheers Matt.

This is the little carving/hobby knife set to which I referred. I said I didn't know where I bought it, but with the Workzone brand on it I am thinking Aldi. It is complete, primarily because I have not yet used it.
I think it will be very useful if I ever find a use for it.

I took Jools to see the James Bond movie last night for her birthday. We went to see it at Coburg Drive-in so we had comfy seats and were safely isolated from the unwashed masses who may or may not be infected with Covid.
I hope you enjoy the movie. We did.
I should be there for the chatter tonight.I'm doing my May Challenge - I may or may not give a #*c&

Following on from Matt's comments
Mostly about marking knives with a few deviations.
I have been offered a broken 315mm diameter broken Brobo Metal cutting mitre saw blade. It is probably 20 years old and thought to be a tool steel - possibly a HSS. Is it any good for knife making?
I will have more info in a couple of weeks.

Bob. that's the sort of question which, if asked on a knifemaking forum, would result in bitter arguments and probable bloodshed.
My personal take on it is that the cost of a piece of new steel is less than the cost of the wasted time spent working on a piece of unknown steel that has a 50-50 chance of working or not for the given task.
Also for knifemaking, HSS does not really hold a fine edge well. It is good with edges angled closer to the vicinity of 90 degrees like lathe cutting tools, but not edges used on knives which are often well under 10 degrees.
Heat treatment and tempering would also be difficult in the home workshop environment.I'm doing my May Challenge - I may or may not give a #*c&
