I just use paste wax furniture polish. Whatever tin I have in use also gets used on the cast iron surfaces. It really does not matter what brand but read the label to make sure there is no silicone in it as that can spoil things when you come to applying finish to wood.

I'm not far from the beach so I generally pack everything in a cupboard if I can, otherwise I use either FraPete Slide and Protect or u Beaut Traditional Wax.

I've heard that Renaissance wax is good. Has anyone used that?

Tried a small can of Renaissance wax (from Lee Valley) years ago - it's no better or worse than any other wax IMHO, but very expensive for what it is. Much "thinner" than U-Beaut trad wax, so a bit easier to apply.

If I'm going to leave any machine or tool unused for a decent period I just give it a rub over with a rag soaked in G15, which is brilliant stuff. Easy to wipe off before using the tool again. Mind you, all machines are kept covered with dropsheets when not in use.

Thanks riverbuilder - I'll try that.
