Thread: Cubism’s Revised.

That’s right folks another competition with a price pool valued somewhere from $1 AU TO $100,000, which will be paid in rubles. No, of course not and the value of the prizes while not completely finalised will be closer to the lower limit than the higher limit (a lot closer). As with the Plane Competition, which was run on these Forums during the height of the pandemic, the emphasis is on participation and sharing more than the need to win. Having said that, we know you will produce your best effort in the spirit of the event.

Neil, our benevolent benefactor, has kindly offered a $100 and a $50 gift voucher for U-Beaut products and also a Copy of the only Book you need to bother reading this year on Polishing Wood.
Possibly a signed copy no less. There may be other prizes

So what is the Competition and what do you have to do to enter.

You just have to make something. Really, it’s that simple. Just make a Wood thingy!!
Ok but , yes, there’s a small Catch. Come on, did you think it would be that easy ? [emoji846]

The basic requirements are, you will be required to make an item using any discipline you like whether it be Wood turning, Wood carving, Furniture making, Pen turning, Box making, Scroll saw work, Toy making, Parquetry even those weirdo’s, who we tolerate (barely), who make Tools.

Your item must be at least 80 percent timber. "Timber" includes man made product such as, MDF, Chipboard and Veneer as well as real wood.

There will be two Categories:

Category 1: Your item must not be more than 250mm cube. In simple terms it must fit in a box 250mm x 250mm x 250mm.

Category 2: Same as first category except it must fit in a 500mm cube square by volume. Yep. a 500mm x 500mm x 500mm box.

It’s really just simple, shake off that pesky Virus blues, get back out in the shed, under the Carport, or the corner of the Kitchen table and build.

For those who are imaginatively challenged, you could carve a self portrait, you might even want to turn your own Urn.
Maybe do a Marquetry picture, a Doll's house, or a swear box or maybe even a plane (it needs to be wood though),
A model truck, any wooden clock makers out there (the time piece, not the person)
A mechanics chest for the benchor a worksite tool caddy.
A serving tray
A walking stick? Hmmm. Even the diagonal of a 500mm cube (at 866mm) is going to be a challenge for that one unless you can fold it.

You will have nine months to complete your master piece.Start posting dates to be announced shortly together with the finish date.
You will be required to post regular updates on the forum with pictures of your master piece. Part of the competition is the process.

Once you have completed your piece submit your entry on the Forum with ten of your best finished pix that you feel show your work in the best light and a description in no more than 500 words of the work, materials used, any special techniques and indeed anything else that you think will help present the entry.

This will then be Judged, by Two groups

First group will be the other Forum members (Peoples choice)

Second group will be three esteemed Judges from the Forum. They have been chosen for their age, the number of posts submitted and their literacy and their incorruptibility (All bribes by PM please). A secondary criteria was their appreciation of wood and enthusiasm for The Forum:

This Competition is to be run in the same vein as the Plane Challenge,so we are looking for participation more than the end result. A good roll up would be terrific.

We will post shortly a full criterion for those that need to know the super fine points.
