It amazed me the driving experience with some of these old cars compared to the new modern smooth experience.
They are so individual and unique .
I never drove a Porsche . But I own an unrestored MK 2 3.8 Manual overdrive Jag . Original numbers BRG with Tan interior.
When I had that on the road for one year in my mid 20s I was roaring around town with my Dog next to me . Ill always remember racing up the Dandenong ranges at night slipping from 4th back to 3rd and giving it everything until the next corner.
I gave an English mate a drive one day . He put his foot down and exclaimed " S**T! it aint half got its full quid of power " as it started going sideways . It was wet as well which didn't help

One of these but looks the opposite in condition. No wire wheels. Its now sitting out back in a shed.

It's a small world when you own the same car (which is not an average car to own) that I had when I was 17, what year is yours?, the 3.8 was the Le Mans engine winning for Jaguar in the 1960's

Haha, yeah Derek I know the Anglia all too well. I never did quite get the rear window design, but designers back then had some very interesting tastes! They definitely got their act together much more when they decided to put pen to paper for the mk1 Esky.

I had actually dreamed about a BMW 2002 tii for quite some time and was going to purchase one of those, but the owner of the car I was interested took too long to get back to me, and the Escort came up.

I do sincerely wish I had the budget for an old Jag - a friend of mine bought an inline 6 E-type convertible for a steal some 15 years ago and has since spent quite a bit of time restoring it....and it has to be about the most beautiful classic car to have ever come from the UK. A real beauty!

Siggy, I agree about the 2002 tii and E-Type, although I always hankered after a XK-150. I also had ideas of restoring a MkII, but the stories of rust ....

When I think back on the cars I would love to own, I realise they were the cars of my teens: Austin Healey 3000; Morgan, and Triumph TR4. I came so close (and kick myself) for turning down a Sunbeam as my first car (no, not the Tiger).

My Mk 2 is a 1961 . The Moss gearbox I'm pretty sure . What ever was standard . No syncro on 1st is it ? It took some getting used to. Driving the car was a shock at first . First time I drove it I thought "What have I got myself into !" But once I got used to it I loved it. It was a rocket.

My 61 was auto, it came with a few spare parts like the rear wheel spats and a front windscreen, but like you mentioned very easy to spin the back end in the wet when accelerating away from a junction.

The car I wish I still owned was a soft top series 1 E-type 3.8 litre with triple webbers. When I rebuilt the engine, had the cam reground which worked much better with the webbers than the standard cam. Bit more negative camber on rear wheel to help handling (with koni shock absorbers).

A mate had a couple of Detomaso Pantera’s years ago. Was lucky enough to have a drive.
