I strongly suspect that the people who determined the 1% Annual Exceedance Probability Flood (aka the 1 in 100 year flood) were working with the 1958 version of Australian Rainfall and Runoff, possibly updated with 1980s surface permeability.
I know that in NSW, the Department of Environment and Planning assume that rain water tanks (compulsory on new suburban builds in NSW) are empty at the start of a 1 in 100 year rainfall event. Go figure ...regards from Alberta, Canada

Matt,
I've told you before that
1. 1 in 100 doesn't mean 1 in 100 years, it's really just shorthand for an Annual Flood Exceedance Probability (AEP) of 1%. My statistics is not all that good but, your expectation should be that you will experience a 1% AEP event every 30 years or so, or much more frequently if you change catchment areas frequently -- Maribyrnong River in the morning, and the creek on your rural block the next day. Not to mention all the other catchments you crossed on your drive.
2. the 2019 1% AEP rainfall event doesn't take account of the ability of climate change [warmer] air to hold more moisture than air prior not subjected to climate change, i.e. air in 1958 when Australian Rainfall and Runoff was first published. (As far as I can tell, the 1% AEP rainfall event hasn't been updated)
3. and it's not my fault that you didn't dig a set of diversion drains to divert the overland flow away from that sink hole you cut in the slope.
and, if you have the timber, you are allowed to build an ark. You don't have to be an atheist, but IMO it helps.regards from Alberta, Canada

Well I’m not saying anything about 100 years an bla bla bla, mathematics was not my strong point at school.
But we have been informed too expect the worse again, over the next two days, from the SES Sand bagging has been going on all day in town.
An Sally has made sure we have plenty of Coffee an chocolate,
We are meant too expect 60 mm possibly, tomorrow morning(Sunday from 2am).
See what happens, [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849][emoji167].

Matt
I would be checking the tank connections and maximising how much water I could collect. At least, as far as rain is concerned, you now know what to expect: That's half the battle.
