I'm reasonably new to turning pens and so far have had a crack at some Slimlines and a couple of Sierras. I like the slimlines for their relatively low cost so they are great for trying out technique and different woods but personally I like a chunkier pen. The Sierras on the other hand are just a little too chunky.
So my question to all you out in Pen Land is what kits have you used that are somewhere in between the slimlines and the sierras?

try the chrome baron mate at around 10 bucks they are a good value nice looking pen that wont break you if you stuff up or a sedona

Try some StreamLine kits, they are a bit thicker than a Slimline, you can make them a bit thicker and they don't look like a Squashed sausage. Also the European are a nice kit.

I'd try the streamline - essentially a slimline with a bigger (diameter) centre band
or you can stay with the slimline and make your own centre bands to whatever size you like
The Baron or Sedona (they use the same bushes) is also a nice pen
another option is the Australiana EB from Timberbits - same look as a sierra but a tad slimmer (and use different bushes) but also more expensive.
My picks the Baron or baroness (same Pen different Supplier) they really do come up looking nice.I think it may even surprise yourself.
You also can't go past the old faithfull Cigar. There is also a pen called a corona See Mark at (043turning) I think both pens are under $10 and really do look nice when made.

Streamline or Sedona although the Sedona is a bit too thick for my liking. Elegant Beauty would probably be a better choice. The Streamline lends itself to shaping to your own desire and can be quite thick if you taper the blank to the centre band diameter. I don't use a different centre band bush for the Streamline, I use the slimline bushes and check the diameter of the centre part of the blank with my calipers and taper to the desired measurement.
Or, you can make your own centre band as suggested in one of the posts above. This can be quite effective and look really nice and your own imagination is your only restriction.
Any of these kits would do. It is only a small selection from 2 suppliers.
I like to see what they look like when there finished before I buy them.

Another kit you might like to explore is the Polaris which is a really nice kit. Not sure where I got mine from but I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.
