Species of Ebony
Greetings
A few years (could be four or five) ago I purchased some Ebony at a Sydney TWWS. For the life of me I cannot remember what species it is.
Stuck in my tiny brain is the memory that the full name had to do with a Pacific Island, but I'm not sure. The bloke had a fair bit of it. I bought box making, pepper grinder and pen blanks and I big chunk about 4 inches square and a foot long.
Anyone have any ideas what the species may be?
Regards

Solomon Island Ebony is the same thing as Queen Ebony I think - I have some too, also purchased at a TWWW show years ago. There has been at least one guy selling this at just about every show for years now.
Timber merchants Australia & Worldwide
Can have quite a lot of pure black in it, but nowhere near as uniformly black as true (i.e. Gabon) ebony.

Solomon Island is what it is, I wasn't sure until I read your comment about Queen Ebony Mr Brush.
Thanks for the respones. I couldn't think of it to save my life. Cheers.

Queen Ebony is what I purchased according to the bloke I got it off at the Sydney show years back. Had all good intentions of making something nice but 5 or 6 years down the track now the boys sit in my shed on a Friday afternoon with a cold beer and crack macadamias on it. Has dented yet.
