Gday David
My 2 cents of personal preference (depending on the specs/cost) would generally be go for a new unit.
If it's the m/b you should be able to copy data from the hdd.
As explained to me many decades ago, fixing electronics etc is like patching a rusty bucket.
Patch one hole, sure enough another will appear.
One never knows all the circumstances, but that's my 2c in general.
Good luck
Keith
I doubt you could even get a new motherboard for an old laptop that cost less than a complete new one. There are ways to recover stuff off the old hard drive if it still works and you haven't got backup copies.
Thanks for the replies, I think I will take your advice and go for anew one
regards
David
My old HP went the same way, I removed the HDD and put it into a $5 case so I was able to transfer all my old files onto the new laptop and had a spare portable disc drive.
