And in with the new ..........
Attachment 535439
Finally arrived on Monday, and fortunately yesterday and today have only been in the mid 30's here, so I managed to get it unpacked, assembled and moved into position (it's a heavy bit of gear).
Forecast for the next few days is low to mid 40's (which means getting close to 50 in the shed) so I don't think I'll be using it for at least a few days yet.
Started it up and amazed to see how quiet it runs (compared to the old one anyway) and it has more speed range adjustment options than I think I'm ever likely to use. Some very nice touches though, including accurate and easily read measurements on the tailstock quill.
It's quite a bit higher (between centres) than the old one - and I had the old one mounted on wooden blocks so that I could bolt it down to the floor. Will be interesting to see how I find the new tirning height.
The only chuck I have at the moment is the basic one supplied by Hare & Forbes for the old lathe (I got an adaptor so that it fits the new lathe). So I'm now searching some sites for a decent chuck, preferably that will screw directly onto the 30mm x 3.5mm pitch spindle on this lathe. So far considering a Vicmarc VL100 but still looking at options.
All I have to do now is sell the old lathe - I've advertised in farcebook market pages but not confident I'll get any takers around here.
