Recycled Silky Oak
A friend gave me a dresser that he had growing up. It was full of quarter sawn timber in big wide sections and i knew once sanded and oiled it would really come alive, and it didn't disappoint. The lid insert, tray and trims are from highly figured Mountain Ash.
Finished with Constantia 100% organic wood oils and waxes.
I previewed it half finished on one of my social media pages and it sold straight away.

Lots of components have gone into making that up. Easy to see why it sold so quickly.

!/4 sawn Silky Oak is very nice showing the flecked rays. Easy timber to obtain there's a lot of old wardrobes out there, usually painted though.

Fantastic box.
I really like the lid design, how did you make it?
Thanks

Put the box together with a 6 x 6 rebate around the top then i machined a 30 x 12 moulding with an 8 x 6 rebate on the inside edge and a chamfer on the outside edge. The moulding was mitred and glued in 4 sections. The lid insert has a 8 x 3 rebate around the top edge and glued in, producing a 2mm gap.
