corian or make your own.
Yer getting quick, Stirlo. Yep, Corian...
what's is corian and where do I get it from?
Toni
It's sorta like acrylic, but is more opaque... often used for kitchen bench tops & splashbacks. It isn't usually very thick though, perhaps 12-13mm so needs a good eye when drilling.
Tomorrow I'll look through my offcut bin and see if I have pieces I'm willing to part with. (Hint: I might need reminding.)
ok thanks Skew but if you don't have any where else would I try?
I have a real silly question what about a cutting board(those hard plasticy kind)? could you turn it?
Toni
hey toni. the guys on TPS use it all the time...
if you look on ebay. com ( not au ) theres some going cheap or have a chat to some people in the kitchen industry.
penpal ( peter ) has posted pics of pens in corian...i think.
What about a lime blank, very white and probably a lot esasiuer to turn than plastic
what a lime blank?
Toni
Rodent and I get ours from a factories' offcut bins and they're getting to be very tight with it. :( I think their accountants have been throwing a hissy fit.
I should have some spare, but I won't make promises. Not until I get out to the shed and actually have a look, anyway... Which'll be tomorrow. I've been cooking out there all day today doing some $%&#! sanding and I'm not particularly interested in going back out again tonight. If I don't have any "Arctic" left (a plain, snow white) would some "Snowflake" do? That's sort of a creamy colour, with flecks of pure white scattered through it. I'm pretty sure I have heaps of that, 'cos it's what I use in S&P mills to indicate "Salt."
I've cut and carved the nylon cutting boards before, but I've never tried turning one. I can't see any reason why you couldn't though... but it is very, very soft compared to wood and would need a light touch.
Let us know if you have a go. :D (Hang on... you just got yer new Nova didn't you? I'm not s'posed to be talking to you... I'm s'posed to be sitting in a corner sulking... :oo: :p)
that should be alright the creamy color. It's ok Skew I haven't got it yet. It still on the courier.
Thanks
Toni
Well hows that for coincidence, I just finished making 4 wedding pens including a white one, just have to finish the mount. I used the Bonewood I have, almost like bleached wood (see here)
Love to see a pic neil

hey toni. i had a look at ebay and there isnt much white stuff that is over 1/2 inch. so you would have to laminate if you wanted to use a larger kit.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Corian-3-4-Fat-P...QQcmdZViewItem theres one that is 3/4 inch
there looks to be white in this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/HUGE-LOT-CORIAN-...QQcmdZViewItem
not associated with any of the auctions, just trying to help:)
I'll probably post a pic after finishing the stands on the weekend. The Bonewood was a pain, splinters and open grained, but I wanted to use real naturally coloured woods. I also used the pink ivory, purpleheart and ebony.
You could also use coloured pigment in resin and cast your own.
