Joints in ceiling joists

Anyone know if you are allowed to join ceiling joists at a hanging beam?

I have a room 9 m long and joists of 6 m and 3 m

AS1684 says joints must be at a point of support, so would this be ok , or do I need to use a lintel underneath (I would rather not use a lintel if there is any other way).
