Would you mind explaining how you installed the hinges?
Andy
Very nice. Did you cut the curve of the lid on the bandsaw?
Thanks for the comments.
These are really a simple box to make. The concave curve on the lid was made on the table saw with the fence set at an angle and the blade slowly raised after each cut. The outer curve was then scribed parallel to the inside curve and firstly cut on the bandsaw. It was then finally dressed to size on the disc sander before finally sanding by hand.
The base and lid were taped together and then the centres for the hinge pins marked out. The lid at the rear was shimmed with about .25 mm tape to get the correct gap. These were then drilled from either side with a 3mm drill going through the sides into the lid. With some longer hinge pins temporarily installed the lid was then fitted to allow the lid to lift to the correct position.
The finish is tung oil , many coats applied up to 1200 grit and then wax finished and buffed.
Love the simplicity of your design and the effectiveness of the contrasting Tassie timbers. Beautifully finished and constructed with an informative presentation...congratulations:2tsup:
