G'day,
I've been trying to work out what type of timber this is and was wondering if anyone knew? I originally thought it was pine, but now I'm not sure with that patterned knot. Any ideas?!
Cheers.

More than likely Pine.
Thanks for that. Anyone know any good books about identifying timber types?! Still haven't found one.
Here is a pretty good book that has commonly used trees for furniture and turning
Wood Identification & Use - Woodturning Tools and Timber, Woodturner Accessories, Woodcarver Supplies, Woodturning Equipment
and another good book for tree identification is
Booktopia - Stirling Macoboy's What Tree Is That? by Stirling Macoboy , 9781877069314. Buy this book online.
you may be able to find the what tree is that book cheaper in other places but that link is just so you know what book it is
Not a book but I have found this site useful - The Wood Database
