Story Stick
Hi fellas,
As suggested by Issatree in the metric thread, this is a brief story on the story stick / pole / board. It is a full size drawing of every component and can be as detailed or brief as you like. It's main function is to problem solve. In this case the box had to accomodate Bows and display the Fiddle within the glass frame.
The bottom rails are different widths, the top rails and stiles are the same. Always define the component between arrows ex : <-----gable------> .
As you can see it tells me my glass and panel size, I subtract 2mm for glass and 5mm for the panel on this cab. To keep it simple I try and have my dimentions fall on a 0 or a 5.
I hope the pictures tell the story.

I've misplaced my draw, as drawn it goes past the back. The draw bottom stops on the back, positioning the draw flush with its box.

The Stick???.
Hi Ball Peen,
Thank You for the reply.
Your work is to me Great.
You Lost me on the 2nd. line, but I'm a Woodturner not a Woodworker, as I put it.
Me, Can't Measure Can't Cut. Horrific. Can measure something 3 times & get 3 different answers. so then which line do I cut on. Stick to Turning, that's my Solution.
What I was asking about, was this Older Chap actually had a Stick 1" x 1" 36"+ -, & I had seen him in action. He had a few Sticks, but I didn't know anything about them, He was a great Tradesman, so I thought.
So your Sticks in the Pics are 1 piece of Board 8" - 200mm. W with markings on it, & the other is approx. 6" - 150mm. W with the same kind of markings.

Using a wider story board like that allows much more detailed information to be included than you can get on a narrow stick. Handy if you have to come back and make another piece a few years later.

Thanks, that explains things well. I can see how they can be a benefit...it seems like I'm always misplacing my hand drawn paper plans.
