Big stringy with fiddleback and great colour.
This tree was my favourite tree on the place. It is the biggest of all the stringy's on the 60acres if not the whole district. Now before some of you start jumping up and down; let me hastily add that it did die of natural causes about 2 years ago. ( I've lost a few trees over the past few years for no apparent reason). Who knows how old it is. It's 11-1200 at the base and about 7-800 at the top. 5.5m long to the solid base of the root ball. Every mm is fiddleback (even the bark)

So we went away for our anniversary and the whole time we're away I'm thinking of what I'll find (is that wrong of me?:B) With a lot of white ant damage in the upper limbs I was a bit worried I'd find a 3-400mm pipe in the main log:no:. No sooner did we get home and I was out there to do some cutting to prep the log for milling. Now for me that's a bit of a dilemma. Always wanting to get the best out of a log and never sure that's what I'm getting. Always second guessing. Anyhow at the moment I think that floor boards is a great way to go. We have a lot of floor that needs redoing and I'm thinking if we want to sell there should be a good opportunity to sell it when seasoned. ( If anyone would like to give some advice that would be appreciated)
Especially with this piece pictured below. I'm thinking

I started trimming the roots to get it in the mill and was gob :oo:smacked :doh:at what I found (below). The colour in the roots is so dark! The last pic looks like blackwood and all the roots are fiddleback aswell. What you recon Neil? Pen blanks I spose:;
