Hi All
I am going to shortly start construction of a new machine using rack and pinion for the X & Y axis.
I have come across this supplier on ebay

Their price appears to be pretty good and they do have 100% feedback.
I was wondering if any of you have used this rack and could advise how good it is/accurate, or whether I should pay more and stick with TEA or Linear Bearings as my supplier.

I have not purchased or used any R&P from this seller but I have made several purchases from over the last four years.
They are a good company to deal with and have a fast delivery. The products are well packaged.
I personally would not hesitate to make future purchases from them.

Purchased my rack and pinions from them, no issues with the rack but the 20T pinions were bored off center and was 8.1mm at one end, ended up purchasing a set of pinions 25T from TEA which ran much better.
I have some video if you want me to upload something to youtube to show the difference, I could just be a picky bugger :D

Silvers worked out cheaper and was pre-drilled & tapped, so why not :)
If you're happy with that wobble or want to bore them out you're welcome to have my pinions if I can find them, I never bothered with returning them as it had been over 3 months since I purchased them and it was less than $30 all up from memory.

That is a beautifully built machine. You can hear the difference between the pinions. Did you use TEA's own brand of pinion or their SNB precision range?

Thanks, the pinions were just from the TEA range (budget pinions).
TEA1025 - Module1-25 Tooth - $9.02ea. + GST + $17 freight for 3 pinions. (price from 12/8/15)
I did get these quotes for the SNB range
2x SNB 1020 @ $24.04 each plus gst.
2x SNB 1025 @ $29.31 each plus gst.
Just to add to the info,
I used Mod1 20 tooth pinions from that ebay seller and they were good. Bore was concentric.
Must have been a bad batch. Luck of the draw.
Also used Mod1 rack 1400 long and it was drilled and tapped from the back.
In light of the generally good experiences our members have had with this supplier I have bitten the bullet and ordered 3 x 1400mm Mod1 rack and 3 x 20T pinions.

I will take a few photos and post once the items arrive. I will also test the pinions on the lathe for true in light of Ch4is experience.

Well the rack and pinions arrived last week.
Postage was fast and the packaging was excellent. The racks were wrapped in bubble wrap and then taped to a very heavy duty cardboard angle section which has kept them nice and straight. The whole lot was then wrapped in a couple of layers of corrugated cardboard. Pinions wrapped in bubble wrap and also taped to the cardboard angle.
Very pleased with the quality of the products. Racks are straight, oily, and totally rust free and tapped on the back for mounting. I machined a stub axle on the lathe to test the pinions for "true" after Ch4is experience. All three run "true"
Verdict - Excellent! Great product, well packaged and 48% cheaper than TEA Attachment 364974Attachment 364975
