Greetings!
Proud of myself for recycling Jarrah door frames into a tidy little single bed. I regretfully purchased 12 meters of treated pine - 70x35 - to make slats, hoping the smell would disappear. It hasn't. :(
Any ideas for oiling / painting / treating the slats to reduce the smell?
Or should I just cut my losses and use something else.

I'd use something else, or leave the slats outside till it stops gassing. How long it takes will depend on how much ventilation the boards get and the level of treatment in the board.
Painting/oiling the boards will encase the treatment, and help with the smell, but if at any point the the treatment fails you'll end up with it gassing.
wipe done with acetone then 2 coats polyurethane
I would cut my losses and find another purpose for the treated pine.
The idea of having my brain pickled while sleeping is not appealing to me.
We live in an environment surrounded by all types of chemicals, glues, paints, plastics etc Apartt from some initial smell does it really matter?Quote:

I found another use for the treated pine and replaced them with some recycled jarrah decking. 70x19.
They even match the door-frame sides. Not that anyone sees the slats.
