Melboure Wood Show Prices
I have posted this in the Bandsaw forum but I will post it here for others that are interested.
Ok here is my findings of the Melbourne show:
Carbatec
BAS350 RRP $735 Show $650
SBW3501BCE RRP $995 Show $895
SW1401 RRP $499 Show $449
BS1400 RRP $699 Show $629
SBW3501 RRP $799 Show $719
SBW4300 RRP $1495 Show $1345
Hare and Forbes - HMC - Machinery House
BP16A RRP $799 Show $729
BP430 RRP $1495 Show $1295 (looks the same as SBW4300)
DC-3 Economy 2Hp Dust Extractor RRP $329 Show $269
There were very few 2hp that I could find most were the smaller 1hp not great for a cyclone J
Triton:
Triton prices were a little disappointing. It appears as if they were a retail store with a few Triton reps helping out.
Dust Mask: Bunnies $288 Show $269
Wood rack: Show $59 or $69
Router: I think around $20 off
Saw: Also around $20 off.
I didn't pay much attention to the Triton range I was mainly interested in the respirator.
U-Beaut:
Special prices …. Signed book ….. Excellent service … what more can I add???? Oh yeah they had Doorstop!!!!
Hitachi:
Seemed to have a good range and some good prices. I hade blown the budget so I tried to avoid temptation as much as possible.
GMC:
I only had a quick look towards the end of the show …. The prices seemed very good …. Much of the range would have been almost an impulse buy. For example they had their small router for $35 with the 2 year warranty … it was almost tempting for a small trimming router (again limited by the budget). The lathe also seemed very cheap. If you were after a cheap range of tools to start up it would have almost been a one stop shop.
Ryobi:
Lots of products but I didn’t stop …. I have a Ryobi drill that struggles to do almost anything. Once bitten …… Large range however and would be worth a better look.
Makita:
Did they have some products there ????? I was distracted by the Makita girl cardboard cutout, it was a difficult decision to spend the $700 on a bandsaw or offer to purchase the cutout…. She will be appearing on the weekend J
Jet (Woodworking Warehouse)
JWBS14CS Show $850
JWBS18 Show $1995
Jet Table Saws for those interested:
JWSS-10 (10" Supersaw) $2175.00
JWTS10LFR (10" Contractor) $1150.00
The Jet products offered by Woodworking Warehouse have these offers on until the end of November. Whilst I was looking at the Supersaw some bloke asked about the special show price and he was given $2175.00.
The savings on machinery didn't seem as large as I had expected from experiences from previous posters. They didn't seem interested in moving on the prices. I went for the BP16A for $729 a saving of $70, when I questioned the price I was told that $729 was the best show price that I could get and if I was to ask at the store any other day they would say that $799 was their best price. The logic of this doesn't really work out, he obviously still makes a profit at $729 so is really pushed you should be able to get this any day at the showroom. I wasn't really interested in haggling for a few dollars so I just bought it for $729 after all it is a $70 saving and it is better in my pocket than theirs.
Next year I think that I would be getting something like the Supersaw but I don't think I would bother buying from the show .... it is a pressure environment and the service is also rushed. The advantage with the show is that it is easy to compare different machines .... I found myself walking between Carbatec and H&F numerous times checking different features which would be difficult if I had to drive to the various showrooms. The Supersaw does look like a good machine however ....
