Yellow Poplar equivalent (stiffness, weight)
Hi all,
New to the forums but looks like a great place for woodworking info.
I'm after an Australian equivalent for Yellow Poplar (also called Tulipwood I believe). It's used in the states for everything from pallets to matchsticks to paddle-pop sticks.
I've searched and most people recommend Radiata Pine for SE Aus. I'm using it to build cores for snowboards/skis so I'm more interested in the weight / flex / stiffness / hardness properties. Are they roughly equivalent?

Have you thought about Paulownia. I know it is used a lot as a core in kite boards and I can't see why it wouldn't work for snowboards. If your interested PM me your email and i can send you specifications of Paulownia.
