After making an overhead storage rack this morning, I hooked in to dressing bits and pieces of old timber to see if it's suitable for an upcoming project. Most was old painted skirting boards and large boards from kitchens that I've scrounged and most is old hoop. I take the old paint off with an electric planer and vacuum before it sees my jointer. Amongst them were two enormous skirts (9" x 1 1/4") that I knew to be red cedar, but also two other boards that turned out to be red cedar too. I got two 170 x 25mm boards dressed out of the larger ones, a thinner one and then the triangluar one which has beautiful figure, I was really surprised. To be honest, red cedar is not my cup of tea and the larger boards are rather plain and I was thinking of swapping them until I uncovered the grain in the triangular board. Now I have to think of a project for them.
