Toys for Big Boys - 1929 Ford Stake Bed Truck
After it was pointed out that my link to my post of making wheels had expired, I reconstructed it and update my post here.
Likewise, several other posts in which I linked to another website have also expired, so as time become available, I will reconstruct them here as new posts.
The first of these is my 1929 Ford Stake Bed Truck. It has 26 photos with some text that shows both the completed truck and many build along shots.-------
This time we go down on the farm - & per requests – some build along pictures.
This is a 1929 Ford stake bed farm truck. The first picture shows it with a 12” ruler to show scale.

The next three pictures are various views of the completed truck.

These two pictures show the truck without the removable bed racks.

Now for some “build-along” pictures ---
Glue up of the bed racks

Basic engine block with slots cut. I used my band saw with an indexing jig for spacing the slots.

Glue up of bed frame rails in jig

Gluing fender liners to fenders – The inside curve (lower surface) of the fenders has been cut and sanded and the outside curve (upper surface) has been rough cut. After gluing the fender liners to the fenders, the outside curve is cut. This is easier than trying to complete both the fenders and the liners and trying to match the curves as they are glued together.

Completed left and right fender assemblies

Glue up of the cab assembly to the gas tank and engine block. The cab assembly consists of a front panel, back panel, sides, floor, seat, steering wheel and gear shift. The roof is added later after finish to the inside of the cab assembly has been applied.

Glue up of head lights to light bar (notice the fancy jig)
Attachment 258934
Glue up of bumper halves to the end pins with 1/8” spacer
Attachment 258935
The next few pictures show the truck (without bed) in a finishing fixture. The bed is finished separately and is glued on to the truck frame after all finishing is completed (that is why I have the blue tape on the frame).
The fixture is adjustable in both width and length to fit various vehicles and is mounted on the swivel portion from an old swivel rocker chair. The uprights can be removed so the fixture can be used for finishing other projects.
These show the truck upside down for finishing the bottom.

After the finish has been applied to the bottom, I grab two of the dowels diagonally opposite each other, lift the unit out of the slots, flip it over into the upright position, and then back into the slots for applying the finish to the upper portion. This way I can move the unit without having to touch any part that may have fresh finish on it.
