interesting gadget : chapman stick
Hello,
Saw a busker in Rundle Street Mall in Adleaide playing one of these yesterday.
Quite an interesting thing www.stick.com - Stick Enterprises Inc. - google gives various other hits if you do a search
To my mind it was a set of base strings and a set of normal strings mounted on a neck (no "body" at all) and the strings were played by simply holding them down and relying upon the string hitting the fret to set up the vibration in the string.
Both hands play at the same time - he said it was a bit like playing the piano with one hand on base the other on normal strings - he just touched the strings to make a noise.
Was using an AER amplifier and making a pleasant sound.
Anybody here ever tried making something like this ?
Am aware of practice guitars for travelling with that are just a neck and some strings and headphones.
Bill

The Chapman stick is awesome. Tony Levin plays them alot, John Myung from Dream Theater has used one too. They sound phenomenal but are pricey.
