Also have the Basato 4, and frankly the euro style guides are a pain in the proverbial. When I noticed the surfaces getting worn/grooved, I removed all the guides (including the back one) and lapped them all flat again on a diamond plate. I put some powdered graphite dry lube on the shafts when I put it all back together, but its about due to need doing again. Definitely limits the cut quality possible with this saw.
Problem is, as far as I can tell, there is no easy way to completely upgrade the euro guides to a decent bearing system (e.g. Carter) or ceramic blocks. The mounting arrangements on the Basato 4 just don't suit any upgrade that I've found.
Ray - I'd appreciate details of the bearing size/part number that you used on yours. Might be worth a try to at least upgrade one of the wear surfaces !
