Which three big lathes?
I own three big lathes, a long bed VL 300 which they no longer make, a VL 175 plus a S75o Stubby with the long bed. All long beds.
All was fine until Jim C, posted a pic of the new short bed VL 240.
Now I don't own a short bed lathe. What should I do? The new vicmarc has a swivel head as well, making my 175 redundant.
Bugger you Jim and Vicmarc.
I can't afford it, never could, but the option is appealing.
I turn mostly platters on the Stubby ,long stuff on the long bed VL300 with two banjos and the rest on the 175.
Now am not about to invest in a VL600, but I would be interested in the pros and cons of the new VL 240. Head spinning. (and I haven't asked the wife yet)

Jeff, you could upgrade the 175 to the 240 . . . . Ann might buy that . . . then again, she's smarter than us! Sell some platters, some of that Red gum in the other shed . . .
There is hope :U

I can see two things occurring here, black clouds forming over Jim's place and Jim being in big big BIG trouble soon:tapedshut::innocent:, oh the stress of a decision like that :stress:, it would make me very :confuzzled::winksmiley02:

Simple really , only need 1 long bed lathe.
-
I know that this can be a problem and you are seeking the wisdom of the community of wood turners on the internet.
:roflmao2:
Good luck on your decision. :U
And yes I will be watching this thread to find out what I need to do in the future.
-
Can you afford it ... Buy it.
I know you say you can't but if there was not hope at all you would not pose the question (would you)

Dave, I couldn't get rid of the VL300 long bed. And probably not the Stubby S750. I am open to trading the VL 175. Never owned a short bed lathe. Some maths to do!
-
Well if you need someone to babysit the 175 ..... ;)
I did see one listed for sale recently. Can't remember how much it was

Jeff
what a quandry
There's too much space in your shed anyway so you may as well clutter it up with another lathe
-
I can understand you need a long bed if you have a short bed but not the other way round??? From some one with only one lathe. (you got three already send me one and you will need another)
