Hi Guys,
Wondering how on earth to make 'Pedestal' legs - guessing that's what they are called.
Any advice on how I would create the ones in the image as an example would be very much appreciated.
Guessing they are made up of a few parts that are joined together?
Could I laminate up a bunch of boards to make the thickness?
Any pitfalls?

They are definitely made up of different bits fixed together, the wide bits on the bottom have the grain running parrallel to the floor(guessing there is something similar on table underside as well) and the chunky bits in the middle would have the grain running vertical to the floor. The chunky bits in the middle could be laminated and glued up in one big lump "wholus bolus" or they could be made with 4 thick bits with mitred vertical joints, does not matter if there is a square hollow in the middle. The profile of these chunky bits could be bandsawn to get the profile like the one in the picture. I'd say some of the finer moldings on those chunky bits have been nailed on later with the grain going horizontal to the floor.
Hope that is not clear as mud!.
Looks like you might have been commissioned a piece by "The Adams Family" or the "Munsters" judging by the picture.....(joking).
Here's a close up shot of one (of many) I made last year. The bottom piece is 200x140, the post is 200x200. There's normally a 200x70 top piece as well, but it was left out of this table to allow for the extension mechanism.

Join it as a solid block, making it hollow will not end well. Nailing bits of small moulding on is also not advisable.
The fine detail at the top and bottom of the post is done with a router, the main curve is cut on the bandsaw and finished with spokeshaves and sanded.
