Camlock query

Hi

Are the camlock pins supposed to be loose in the backplate ? I noticed on my chipmaster , after I screwed the 3 pins down to the marking line , they are loose .

Another thing is , the eccentric locking pivots in the hub, do not seem to apply enough pulling force on the backplate . I can actually turn the eccentric pins and feel them tightening but if I keep turning them past the marked /\ locking position they go around 360 degrees .

Hi Mike,
There should be a small (M6) SHCS next to the pin that stops them from turning.

If you can turn the cams right round, you need to adjust the pins into the backplate in by a turn, then try again. Your cams or pins may be worn meaning the gauge line doesn't really mean much.

Yes but even after tightening the SH locking in screws the pins are still loose, they wobble a bit . Mike

I presume that is normal, all mine do it. The specs ay the bolt heads are 9.5mm and the groove is R5 so there is some slop there already.

The small SHCS are just to hold the pins in the right position so the cams can grab them.A little bit of loose is alright. As Ewan says, you screw the pins into the chuck/ backing plate enough so that the cams on the spindle can't turn 360.

Hi Mike,
the pins are supposed to be loose while the chuck is off the spindle.
If you can turn the eccentric past the mark on the spindle collar then you need to remove the chuck and unscrew the SHCS that retains the pin then screw the pin in one more turn, replace the SHCS and try the fit again.
You do this with each pin on the chuck so the mark on the eccentric lands between the marks on the spindle collar.

Ok yep I understand :2tsup:.. I used a little teflon tape on the threads .. this holds the pins firm
