First attempt at Celtic knot

The heading says it! Blackwood with kauri knot!
The blank was a baluster off cut 43 by 43 mm, I set the drop saw to 45 degrees leaving a bit 10 mm on the corner then measured the thickness of cut about 3.5 . Fired up thicknesser and machined kauri to 3.5ish and C.A was lavishly applied (I now have wood shavings glued to floor)
back to drop saw for next cut etc....
then threw it in lathe
next project will be rolling pin! But with more care taken and different glue

Why are you gluing your shavings to the floor? Next time I might suggest to use a broom and dispose of them accordingly. :rotfl:

smiffie yes I glues the inserts in while square but not cutting all the way through!.
I won't use c.a again. I wasted to much!
ill do them over time say a cut a day! Glue with titebond then clamp.

Looks good @ 45 and amazing how the illusion changes as the kerf thickness & mitre angle changes. Nice work :2tsup:

I recently managed my first celtic knot in a pen blank. Everything was fine but I should have been more precise drilling the centre hole, it was a little off centre which made the knot uneven around the diameter of the pen.

Yes I did one cut each day and clamped after glueing with Tight-bond.

Hi Chuck1 Very nice Knot there but if you are going to make a rolling pin you will have to increase the angle greater than 45 degree's to get the effect.Photo attached the angle is 70 degree's, Sheoak with Jarrah Celtic Knot and Handles
