Hi guys
Is there a native timber that is white as driven snow (well maybe not that white) alternativley what imported species might be like that. I have a couple of intarsia projects that I need really white wood for. Also yellow is another colour I need. I find most yellowish woods tend to darken under oils or varnish and it would be nice if I could maintain the brightness of the colour.

Sap wood off black wood or black bean?
Can't help with yellow. I got some wood off a pallet once that was yellow. From asia I guess but I have no idea what it was.
Holly stays white or ivory wood.
How much do you need. and what sizes?
I've got silver ash and a lot of blackwood sapwood
think there is some huon pine as well (yellow)

American Rock Maple. beautiful brilliant white timber. think electric guitar necks. bloody dense and hard too. holds a great edge off the cutting edge.

Silver Ash will start out almost pure white but will oxidise to a pale golden yellow (about half the intensity of the smiley icon below) under clear finishes.

Paulownia is white but it's not native. It's light weight and easy to work, shouldn't be too expensive to post/transport. Can't help with the yellow wood but there are some rainforest species that would do the job.
As above for white. Look up Leichhardt for a yellow timber it is the most intense, grows around here, but oily as hell.Quote:

For white I use Norfolk Island Hibiscus - hard to pick that it's timber and not bone or ivory! The yellowest timbers I've come across would be Native Lime and Sandpaper fig - they both just seem to get brighter in colour as you finish them instead of browning off! Missen timbers in Burnie have bone wood and tallowood grown in Tassie as near to white I have seen.
