Funny. There's nothing about it on their website.
Herd this couple weeks back and I am in Sydney

Well, it is a fact! The owner is retiring, and selling up
I believe Moxons closed down in Bris some years ago....that's 2 of the bigger suppliers of exotics and good Aussie timbers gone.
For Brissy thats not good.
How ever for Sydney seems we have a new player http://www.gonaturaltimbers.com.au/ I haven't been there yet but believe me I can see the place from the front porch.:U
Lazaride's are having their auction on 2nd December
Thats good information, thanks for the heads up
Sad its going always good service and did not matter if you were just buying a single board - not sure where i'll get my small timber needs from in brisbane now - any suggestions?
I don't really have storage for a m3 or the Auction sounds like the place to be.
Same as Teak & Fancy Timbers, shame it can't be sold as an ongoing business, but perhaps they tried and could get decent offers.
Gaza....my mistake. I used to go to them at Yeronga and they have moved to Jacobs Well not shut down.Quote:
Moxons are still around they are Aust wide.
I sent an email to Moxons at Stapleton (half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast) today. I said that my requirements ranged from a few boards (for exotic or highly figured stock) up to 1/2 or 3/4 of a cubic metre of furniture grade timber at max in one order. I won't repost Moxon's whole response here as the email contains some private info. However, the main points contained in their email response are:
- "We do sell our cabinet and furniture timber direct to end users"
- "We do not have rack stock, so every order has to be pulled out of pack stock - so our turnaround time is usually 3-5 working days."
Their web site lists the range of timbers that they stock (http://www.moxontimbers.com.au/timber-species). Their web site lists a few contact names and their emails/phone numbers at the Stapleton Branch. Sounds like Moxon's might be OK if you want 1/2 a cube of timber or more, but I don't think they're geared up to supply individual boards or small number of boards, and being able to pick and choose that special highly figured board is not practical.
I think we'll have to keep looking for a few different suppliers who together might be able to supply what we've been buying from Lazarides.
Plus - I'll keep buying Mapleman's stuff :-.
Hope this info is useful.

Roy
Further info on Lazarides Closing Down .......
I dropped in to Lazarides Timber this morning while I was down in the big smoke.
Spoke to Gareth and found out that Carbatec have purchased his "craft wood" stock.
Gareth said that he was talking with two other timber retailers trying to talk them into taking on the rack timber sales to the hobby market. Gareth did mention two business names, but neither business has yet agreed to anything, I'll not mention the business names here. Gareth will continue to operate Lazarides Timber on a part-time basis dealing in "Pack timber" to trade only.
Regards,
Roy
