you can import .jpg files, along with many other file types. But it will just be a two dimensional image inside a three dimensional virtual world.
If you're just after an example of how an existing component might fit with your bench, there's also a lot of models of stuff other people have created in the Sketchup 3D Warehouse that you can download and import into your project. There's a fair few decent models of popular brands and items on there.
