I have done better than 25knots in my little 22ft cat (and broke the mast that day), and I can assure you sailing at that speed its a pretty thrilling ride. It is only short but a nice way to go cruising.
We were surfing the HMB Endeavour replica down 10m waves in the southern ocean at peaking at 18 knots and cruising are 12-14knts. Not quite the same, but a sailing a square rigger at those speeds was different to say the least. I love the southern ocean, but it can become a scary place at times!
