Hall Table Queensland Maple and Forest Oak
This hall table is 1400 long and 400 wide.
The main time is highly figured Queensland Maple. It takes to Kunos oil well and really pops the colour and figure.
I added the darker trim of Forest Oak to break up the Qld Maple. I tried to pick the boards with the best figure facing into the room.
The curves are repeated in several parts of the table. I added a third leg to help give the impression of curve on the ends.
I wanted the long table to look light so went with a floating top and the hanging drawers.

Hall Table Timbers and Design
The timber is very nice.
I bought a couple of lots of Queensland Maple from Cedarworks at the Boutique Timbers auction in September. The other option was North Queensland Silky Oak which was very attractive but it wasn't in the size I needed for the legs.
Then got the Forest Oak from Mal and Greg, Boutique Timbers. I was looking for a timber to go with the Maple so also bought some Gidgee, Buloke, Qld Walnut and Jarrah. But the Forest Oak was the most interesting timber.
The design is a combination of a few Hall Tables that I have seen and adjustments to fit the purpose.
The through dovetails on the drawers I thought added some interest. And because I just bought a Gifkin Dovetail Jig from the sale of Neil Scobies' tools.
Most of the work is straight forward except the curve of the rails and fitting the third leg. That was a bit fiddly.
