Well I have completed a cleanup of the backyard - so it must be time to commence my next project.
For a number of years now have wanted build my version of Stephenson's Rocket, but unfortunately couldn't find details of the locomotive drive train mechanism. My mate Fletty (who has been on leave) has graciously taken photos for me whilst over at the Museums in the UK so I now should be able to do a decent job of the replica. (Thanks Alan)
From Wikipedia - here are a few notes regarding "Rocket"
"Stephenson's Rocket was an early steam locomotive of 0-2-2 wheel arrangement. It was built for, and won, the Rainhill Trials held by the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1829 to choose the best design to power the railway.
Rocket was designed by Robert Stephenson in 1829, and built at the Forth Street Works of his company in Newcastle upon Tyne."
My version will be 1/6th scale. I have worked out the calculations and the main datums to work off will be the boiler diameter (mine 162 mm) and the main drive wheel (mine 245mm diameter).
I will be working totally off photos and although a much earlier locomotive than the Stirling - I think there will be lots of challenges with the details and the exposed mechanical components.
Looking forward to this build and hope I can gain your interest.
As the wheels will be one of my main datum points - that is where it will all start.
