MC 1100 lathe / Nova 3000

Hi there

HELP

I’ve got an MC 1100 Lathe where I did change the blown capacitor a few months ago ,
Unfortunately I have problems again

Capac , is st….,Motor gets hot
She needs an overhaul.

I’m in Ferntree Gully ( Melb )
Is there anybody there , who can fix it , Newmotor or whatever ?
Or can you point me in the right direction?
I can drop Lathe off I necessary

and or.... if price is ok....

is anybody out there who has a NOVA3000 in good condition who wants to sell it?

I’ve got one of those which runs perfect

I can recommend Eastland Electric Motors of factory 10, 13 Molan Street Ringwood as I have been using them for about 20 years now.

You will have to drop of the lathe but give them a call first as they may only need the motor.

The running hot may be normal for your motor. Here is a chart of insulation ratings for motors:

Even the lowest rating, class A will burn you if touched.

Here is a motor plate which shows it can be run continuously at an ambient temperature of 40 degrees C. The insulation is class B, which would let the motor run at 130C without harm to the motor. Putting your hand on a 130C motor would definitely harm you.

If you have access to a non contact infrared thermometer that would give you a quick temperature. An oven thermometer wired to the motor for a long session would get close.
