My Hot Stuff glue has turned into a hardened blob. Interested in getting something until I go up to the Maleny Wood show.
Bunnings has a Sikaflex product that is a ethyl Cyanoacrylate. Would it do the job of the Hot Stuff?
Can't seem to establish what Cyanoacrylate glue Hot stuff is; ethyl or methyl or neither.
I just did a Google search and Wikipedia gives all the answers. The interesting thing I found was the explanation of the difference between medical grade super glue and the cheap stuff was the addition of methanol as a solvent. So methinks this maybe the holy Grail of how to thin out super glue. Going to get some out of the drag car and give it a try.

Hot stuff and most other good brands of CA sold by woodworking suppliers (E-Z, Hot Stuff etc) are Ethyl Cyanoacrylates and the odourless ones are Alkoxy-Alkyl Cyanoacrylates. The high end stuff used in the car/metal etc industries are the Methyl Cyanoacrylates, as they are more formulated for metal to metal or metal to other things gluing, but are used for gluing a lot of things. Medical grades are usually Octyl Cyanoacrylates or Butyl Cyanoacrylates
The cheap stuff in the $2 tubes and other cheap brands are the wash that are the result when cleaning out the vats after making superglue. That is why they contain so much methanol, but it just evaporates, leaving a very weak small amount of actual glue. This is why old tubes are often found to be full of air and a few crystals, the thinner has evaporated and those few little crystals are the extent of the actual glue.Quote:
