Usually i do, but not a problem thus far this year:)
I do also, they split on the corners of the nails, B****y painful on these cold mornings. Anyone have a good remedy, besides not washing them so often. Unfortunately I have a Japanese Bladder, and need to wash the hands before going . I work with steel alot and the hands get filthy.
I have found that QV seems to help, https://www.qvskincare.com.au/produc...turising-cream
contrary to what most people believe your skin is more dry in Winter than is Summer.
I get a split on the edge of my thumb above the nail. The best thing I have found to heal it over is L' Occitane shea butter. I tried general hand mositurizers that didn't work well before trying a few things to apply specifically to the split. I's seems a bit pricey for a 10ml pot, but it lasts a long time when applying just as a dab to the wound.
Use a hand moisturiser several times a day, there are industrial products available to do this.

Any industrial/safety supplier should he something similar.
Rub in Vaseline and put hands in cotton gloves overnight. It's cheap and works really well

Lip eze applied to split on thumb or finger as often as needed, usually only for a couple of days, cover with a band aid if necessary.
Works for me.

Over the years I have suffered from split skin on my fingers and have used various remedies depending on how bad it got.
Prevention is the best, I found that petroleum products such as oil and grease, followed by cleaning the hands would cause splitting. Wearing protective gloves, even disposable gloves reduced the splitting.
Wearing disposable gloves for a long period may cause the hands to sweat, but reduces the discomfort or amount of splitting. Cotton gloves overnight do not hurt either.
The type of soap you use could also have an effect.
Various creams can help moisturize the skin. One product I use that can be hard to get is Camphor Cream. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ingrams-...AAAOSwhQhY7cRz
Hope you find a solution to your problem.
Yes, I too have splits in winter...very painful..
I put a dob of Lucas Pawpaw Ointment on the split overnight covering the split with a couple of bandaids; two or three nights and well on the mend...
Cheers, crowie
PS - the old gent I visit weekly says the old coal miners used to use a hot dob of candle grease..
What a great response. I didn't realize how common cracked fingers are.
Today I have tried plenty of Vaseline Intensive Care advanced strength and wearing disposable nitrile gloves, I will try that for a while and see how it goes.
Many thanks to all

Years ago, when I used to spend all day in the darkroom processing B&W photos, with my hands in cold water all day, I used to suffer from terrible splitting on the fingers.
I discussed my problem with a pharmacist and he recommended a urea based cream. He actually manufactured one containing 10% urea. I tried it and my splitting problems disappeared.
Has anyone tried heal balm?
It is amazingly good for cracked heals.
I second the eureka based creams, Heal Balm is one of them
