Hi, Can anyone point me to a store here in Australia that sells a good range of BMI Spirit Levels? I'm looking to get the R1000 levels but have only found them in 2 sizes even though they make them in about 6 different sizes. Thanks

Stonex.com.au
Googled it.
BMI 1000 $63.40
Unless the one you're looking for is different
Thanks mattocks.
The BMI Level I'm looking for are the Super Robust R1000 series levels, not specifically a 1000mm level. The R1000 series use a spirit vial that has a larger radius of curvature which gives it a much higher accuracy than most spirit levels. In essence, a small tilt of the level causes the bubble to move way off centre where as the same tilt on another German brand would still look like it was centred. Looking at the Stonex site, they don't have the Super Robust R1000 series BMI levels. V.E.K. have 2 sizes as does Discount Trader. I was hopeful that there would be a retailer that would have more selection like 4 or 6 different lengths.
i wondered if it was the one you were after
I called VEK today and the guy there says that BMI has been bought by Sola! The Red and the High Precision levels from Sola have the same level of precision as the BMI R1000 so perhaps it is the same tech being used by Sola. However, I can't find anything online confirming the merger.
I have tried a number of brands and still find the stabila the easiest to read
Take a look at the BMI. It has a accuracy of 0.3mm/m whereas the Stabila has 0.5mm/m. That may seem like splitting hairs but it is enough for the Stabila to look like it is level and the BMI to have the bubble off to the side saying "No Way, Dude!". Stu's Shed has an interesting read on the subject.
Why don't you telephone them?
As far as I know they are a single family owned company, north of Munich, not too far from Nuremberg. I telephoned them while I was in Germany last year, most helpful and they certainly speak English; brilliantly in fact.
I was after some of their Quickie stainless steel tape measures, of which I own about 5 now.
Mick.
Okay, it looks like the distributor (Promac) for BMI has dropped BMI and started bringing in Sola. As a result, the BMI supplies are drying up. I haven't found the new distributor, if there is one yet. However, I was able to get a 600 and 1200 length BMI R1000. They are great! I now need bags for them.
