My Tired Old CarPort Now Looks.... Well, Take a Peek!
Hey!
Firstly, just want to say a massive thank you to all you legends who share your wisdom, insight and expertise so generously. As a very green amateur I’ve had a lot of fun picking up this wonderful obsession with timber! Shout out to Crowie from The Blue Mountains who’s help made made a huge difference.
The Story:
So we had an old carport that used to have a big picket gate on a metal frame in front of it. Anyway the gate was to heavy for the hinges and snapped. Which meant it was the perfect time for a project. Here is what we started with:

I found some beautiful and very old/black/dirty decking which I got off Gumtree for $50!!!! After putting it through the Thicky I found out I had 250 L/M of Blackbutt and about 100 L/M of a Mystery Timber that when you put it through Crowie’s Magic Thicky came out stunningly beautiful. Now the second timber decking had everyone guessing. Originally I thought it was Merbau but I honestly had no idea. When Crowie and I put it through we noticed though it was very dense, very hard and had a bit of an acrid smell about it. After posting some pics here and after much deliberation we discovered it was BlackBean! Here it is...

So, cut an already long story short, i wanted to enclose the carport into a garage with an electric roller door on it (happy wife, happy life). So i fframed in the front with left over weathertex Woodman I had from building a Granny Flat, used the BlackBean as the flashing/surround, also as some screening to the side and then used the recycled Blackbutt on the inside. Here is how it went:
