Not quite a shed - building an insulated larder (my shed comes later)
Hi All, my first post on this forum, despite gleaning much wisdom from it since I joined a few years ago. Retired to a 25 acre renovators delight in South Gippsland and been slowly getting things re-done on our little farmlet. We managed to start a little jam and chutney business as it seemed criminal to let all our fruit go to waste and as things would have it, I am now building a larder for said produce out of one half of a small shed. Done all the linings (90x45 framing, R2.7 walls and R6 ceiling) and am now constructing the larder door, which I want to be insulated as well. My plan is to have it 90 mm thick and am assuming I will need to use strap hinges to take the weight (think it will be around 50 kg by the time all said and done). I did see SOSS concealed hinges that looked perfect but they only handle up to 48mm thick doors. I am also looking at cool room hinges as they might prove to be fit for purpose. Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with thick doors, especially hinge hardware - and the pitfalls of building and fitting - before I make the same mistakes!
After this I have a 117 yo small shearing shed earmarked as the workshop - going to build that as a module inside the shed so as to preserve the original artefact - another story....
Many thanks!
