Is This an Incra Positioner?

Is the positioner in this video an Incra? I can nearly read the label but it is not quite clear enough.

Certainly very similar if not Incra.

I thought all the Incra stuff was gold anodised aluminium - this is black. The handle isn't the right shape either (at least, it's not the "current" line).

It almost looks to me like a 3rd party knock-off?

It's certainly got a lot in common with an Incra positioner, but there are a few details that make it a bit different - chiefly the locking handle mechanism and the fence extrusion and of course the colour. A Google of Sam Blasco, the presenter, indicates that he is/was a Minimax instructor and he is therefore likely to have had a bit to do with the wider woodworking tool community over the years. Perhaps what he is using is a pre-production model of the lead screw (LS) system?

He says it is an incremental positioner but not an Incra branded one. Appears to be Tru-Center branded.

It looks like a copy of an incra ls and they probably sued them or whatever. Incra almost certainly have patents in place. I found some tru-center tools online but they are scarce and no positioners so...

I was under the impression it was Incra that utterly flogged a competitors product....

I recall, but without detail, that an engineering firm, literally up the road, invented it (including the tape system) and that they were selling it without too much success. Incra was doing a different thing, saw this first one, promptly reverse engineered it, made it sexy and started flogging it.

Let me see if I can find the story!

edit: found it. It was called the jointech incremental positioning machine ipm-1.

edit 2: here are some pictures of it in action, plus templates for the tapes to print, and a few pages of instructions. It heritage in undoubted. I'll see if I can find the story about the whole misadventure. Its a story of ruthless bastardy, back stabbing and unsurprising American greed.

Hi Guys

It is a positioner made by now defunct Jointech. With all the Incra patents that are in place, I doubt that it pre-dates the Incra LS designs. Either way it ain't available anymore.

Any Incra positioner will do the same thing. It's just a precise way to set a fence

Maybe I'm missing something?? But any extra fence on the left of the blade would do the same thing. Practically the accuracy features are lost, mainly due to the fact that the stop on the leading end of the timber is manually adjusted. The only logical solution would be to use 2 Incra positioners one at each end of the timber, then they could be set and always stay within a .001" of each other.

Thanks for the replies Graham and Tony, I will look further into it. First I need to find a DRO for the front fence, without that the Incra can be used for fine tuning but with it the Incra positioner will mirror the DRO.
