Bonnie vs Senior
Just an idle musing at this point, an idea to fill my retirement when it comes. I'd like to build a small cruiser, just for the wife and I, for day trips and occasional over-nights.
Inspired by reading books by the likes of A.C.Stock, and Bob Roberts, an old 'classic' design is very appealing, and though I have looked at many designs I keep coming back to two.
The Yachting Monthly Senior is my favourite, but my main concern is that it will be a little small for a fat old man with a dodgy knee. Specifically, getting into, and sitting down in, a cabin where the seat is only a few inches off the floor.
Another that appeals to me is Bonnie II. At 18ft instead of 16ft it appears to be more appropriately sized. Bonnie is a single chine design with a lot of freeboard, while Senior has two chines, and I think is a little beamier for its length.
I wonder if there are people out there somewhere who know both of these boats who could say how they compare and contrast?

So have you succeed in that? Please share your experience, Its nice to know about that.

No, still daydreaming, but have come to the conclusion that asthetics are important when building a boat yourself, as either will perform reasonably.
My current thinking is to get the stitch and glue version of the plans from Selway-Fisher as see about upscaling it a little.

Good luck hope your dream come true...!!

Well, life got in the way, and I haven't done anything for a couple of years, other than decide on definately the YM Senior, and with a 10% upscale to give me the space I want.
Apparently a number of people have done that to both the Senior and it's sister designs.
Will start a new thread shortly on it, going to build a scale model first as there is not really any building instructions available.
